Pedal on to Astorga known for its medieval walled Old Town and thermal baths. Be sure to explore Gaudis Episcopal Palace which houses the Los Caminos Museum with fascinating religious artifacts.

Day 3
Astorga to Ponferrada, 53kms

A climb today into the Cantabrian Mountains up to Cruz Ferro, a famous iron cross where pilgrims leave a stone or something behind to symbolise letting go of a burden they have been carrying. Descend down to Molinaseca and the valley below.

Day 4
Ponferrada to O’Cebreiro, 55kms

Ponferrada is the capital of this region and has a spectacular castle defended by twelve towers.    Carry on across the plains of the Bierzo region through vineyards and orchards to Villafranca, a lovely stop off place for lunch.  There is a  steep climb up to the village of O’Cebreiro where you can take in spectacular views.

Day 5
O'Cebreiro to Portomarin, 62kms

Today enjoy a wonderful long descent into Samos, where you can visit its 7th century Benedictan Monastery still in use today.  Arrive in Sarria, an old historic city perched high on a hill. Continue on to Portomarin where in 1962 the inhabitants were moved to make way for a dam.  The Church of San Nicolas was saved and every stone was taken down and numbered and then rebuilt in the new town.

Day 6
Portomarin to Arzua, 53km

As the roads get busier we take you along country roads alongside the Camino. Breathe in the history along the way and imagine how many thousands of people over the centuries have shaped this legendary route. This area is famous for its soft and mild cheeses and there are plenty of opportunities to try them out.

Day 7
Arzua to Santiago de Compostela, 39kms

Today you will reach Santiago and cycle to the very heart of the unique city of pilgrims! It is a short ride today but don’t be fooled - there are many climbs and descents. Head to the main square, the Plaza de Obradoira, in front of the Cathedral and experience the thrill of what you have just achieved!
